Programs useful for a server

At our high school radio station, we have servers all over the place. I was hoping that someone had or can compile a list of good programs to run on a server. For examaple, we have server that streams music to live365, should need virus protection? Is there a free antivirus that is good for servers? (Does not ever cause reboots, won't conflict with anything)

I would start with a few that I know.

Defraggler (good for any computer really)

C Cleaner (good for clearing windows crap)

Antivirus? I use MSE on my personal computers and it works great, but how would it work on a Pentium 4 audio editing workstation.

It completely depends on what you want to do with the server. If it's an 'internet facing' server, Anti-Virus is essential. I'd look at something a bit more powerful than MSE. Unfortunately, these don't fall into the Free category, but ask yourself if its a necessary overhead if you loose all your data because of Malware.

Have a look at Sophos or Symantec - avoid AVG.

Other than that, it depends what role your server plays. Exchange? DC? File Server? FTP?

Well, we have different servers... We have a file server that holds audio files...Is there a really easy to use, automated defragmenting software that is free?
