Limwire works just fine on my computer I have no idea about the rest of them but I have BF2 and Hitman Blood Money so when I get those installed I will see if they work.

With any new version of Windows since it came out with 1.0 there have always been some "bugs" that needed to be worked out. The initial complaints heard about Vista compared to XP were those from people that tried gaming on the beta versions and not the full release and of course the drivers that will eventually(or at least hopefully  ) come out to see things improve.

The latest screen capture of the Vista desktop at the link here will show the desktop icons for various games and programs alike that saw positive results. A few items like Cyberlink's PowerDVD 6.0 while supposedly compatible with Vista as well as the 7.0 version were in error when looking over one site's list of Vista compatible softwares and games. http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/7301/vistadesktoppresentdf3.jpg

In contact with Cyberlink the recommendation from them was the newer Vista ready version that would be backward compatible to XP. For the most part and until adequate patches are seen for various programs and games some will install and won't run while others fail to even install. The latest 4.32 version of SpeedFan failed? The reversal to the 4.31 version however has proven itself reliable for the temp and fan utility.

i think the main issue with games on vista that many overlook is that vista needs around 512mb ram to run while xp only needed a minimum of 64mb. unless you upgrade your ram to counter this, then you'll have less ram available for games etc causing them to run like crap or not at all due to your pc not having as much free memory.

looking at your sig, you only have 1gb of memory. if your using xp now and upgrade to vista you will most definatly notice a slowdown in games. i only had 1gb of ram when i upgraded to vista from xp and i went from being able to have medium-high settings in oblivion to having to set everything on low and i still had low fps.

as for the games in your list, i'll install hitman bloodmoney now and see if it works on my pc.

LimeWire, BitLord, CoD2, all Steam games, and many other programs work on my laptop under Vista x86.

That's right, Vista does need loads of RAM. I'm not a gamer, but for some high graphics things I've done on Vista it worked fine under 1GB of RAM. I did try Blackhawk Striker once running on 1GB and it ran fine. Your games probably use more graphics though.

The only problems seen with any Steam games here was with tow separate spots in HL2 addon Episode one when certain sounds saw game crashes to the desktop. This was seen with the intial Creative beta drivers available when RC1 was first released until lately when the new non EAX full drivers for the Audigy 4 line of cards came out. HL2, EP1, CSS(multiplayer only :( ), and some older games like Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix(GOLD version here), EA's James Bond NIGHTFIRE, Return to CastileWolfenstein, and Duke Nukem Manhattan Project all have seen good results.

The few that did have problems besides EP1 was Metal of Honor: Allied Assault that failed to even install. "wrong version of Windows" was the actual message seen then. For other apps I am waiting for Cyberlink's newer version of their PowerDirector, PowerProducer, and PowerDVD with backward compatibility with XP as well. I contacted their support staff directly on that.

For the average occasional gamer and otherwise basic system 1gb of a good brand of memory will work quite well. For heavy gaming, video capturing, and other far more memory intensive programs the obvious need to boost the amount of memory installed as well as having a good video card will always be a plus and provide some surplus! You don't need a 512mb video card. But a 256mb is a good average for a gaming setup.

most programs will work..especially games.... go for vista...you might not like it at first, but after u use it...u'll like it especially with new features..

After the intial problem expected with any new version of Windows when you sit and wait for drivers, software patches, and whatever else is needed I haven't found the 32bit version of Vista Home Premium to be that much of the problem many have complained about. This includes running just about every game run on XP while some desktop applications will need newer versions. Each new version of Windows sees that anyways!

Here the classic theme is still set as default for a variety of reasons. But those are more for personal preference. The XP style also got the boot originally there too! ("new theme?" "no!" "classic view?" :D "yes!") What can I say? :P

When the beta versions initially came out everyone rushed to play their games on the evaluation only type releases and did what when they didn't see the instant performance gain? "complain! Anyone really familiar with MS products knows one thing. "It takes forever!" at first.
