Projectors VS Hard moniters/TVs

So i havnt seen a thread on projectors or there benefits as compared to CRT/LCD moniters or TV's that can be used as moniters, so i figured why not start one.

I personally am a huge projector fan, for many reasons. this forum is looking at competitively priced moniters/projectors/tvs....so dont start on some bs :P about some projectors cant be seen in the light of day....those are low end, low cost and generally not competitive with any moniter or tv.

I just want the ability to play games or watch movies where they characters are as big as me (as most projectors can project at least a 270' screen). And the good projectors are HD compliant up to 1080i, and have lamps that are powerful enough to project clear images in the daylight (at least 2500 Lumens)

I want to watch Saving Private Ryan and feel like I'M running around on D-Day trying not to get shot.:eek:

I want to play the new Tiger woods game for Wii and feel like I'M the king of swing.:cool:


you can find a good projector at around $1100-1800+(the plus indicates that you either, dont care about cost and will spend more for the same equipment, or you really need a 10,000 lumens projector for some resaon), where as a 62' HDTV could be 4 G's or more, and i didnt really even want to put moniters on here because in order to get one thats comparable to a projector i think you may have to spend a hyper-rediculous amount of money, but i've seen some of the nicer ones run more than 5 G's easily

Man, I'd love to have a projector, but there is no way I'd ever dish out that much money for it. Maybe when I'm filthy rich....
 
Projectors are also VERY expensive when the bulb blows because they're fragile and able to withstand fantastic temperatures. I'd have a standard TFT anyday but we're looking at wiring a Media Centre to the TV downstairs. The only time I use projectors is at school or when I'm at an exhibition with another site.

Plus, an average projector costs more than my PC by 1.5 times over here.

Wow, my PC cost 2k, and my projector, which does everything i can think i will ever need it to do, cost 1.3k (which i view at 120 inches)...maybe you're looking in the wrong places....try newegg......and the bulb has never been an issue, most higher end projectors (1k+) have an app that keeps track of how many hours your bulb has been running, most last from 2-3000 hours, and make sure you check the replacement costs for bulbs before you buy the projector, it will probably infuluence what you buy, mine usually cost anywhere from 100-200$ depending on where you buy them.
 
I'm with you on this one. I've had my projector for a few years now, and it cost me $2600AUD when I purchased it. At the time, that sort of money would only buy a reasonably small LCD or Plasma TV. It's an unbeatable home cinema experience, and something I still look forward to every time I watch it.

As for lamp costs, it's really not that bad. Lamps for my unit are rated for 5000 hours each and cost ~$400AUD. Even if I watched it for 2 hours each and every day, that would still correspond to almost 8 years, which I consider to be extremely good value. Of course, I have now way of telling how realistic the ratings are as I'm nowhere near 5000 hours yet, but I've seen demo models with runtimes that approach the 5000 hours. Naturally, you should always use a decent surge protector and clean the filter regularly.
