My PC has had a lot of problems and has resorted me to reinstall Windows XP. I have a copy of the boot disk for it. When I try to reinstall it, I recieve an error message that states that the version of Windows I already have is newer than the version on the disk and I can't continue with the installation.

I'm wondering if there is any way to get past this message or if there is a certain step I have to take that I missed to install Windows XP properly.

Any help will be appreciated and will be helpful.

delete the old install of windows by deleteing the partion it is on and make a new partion. install windows on the new partion.

you should boot from the disk that you have and then give it a try!!! that should work

If you are trying to use an Upgrade CD for it, make certain you have a older *upgradeable* Windows CD before hand, or else the Upgrade won't work.
