Protecting my laptop from theft at college

I recently bought a computer lock for my laptop, a Defcon Cl combo cable lock. I thought my laptop would be far safer, until i saw online how easily it can be broken into. I figure it just provides a few extra minutes from being stolen. The laptop will most likely spend most of the time in my dorm room. I only have to bring it to one or two classes and to the library to study. I have a carrying case, but i tride to get a slim one to just encase it, so i can carry it around in my bookbag to preven the obvious that i have a laptop.

I was considering getting a key lock or something to add extra protection, hiding they key in a secure place. I need a suggestion on this though.

I also considered purchasing a decently large safe, to put the laptop inside there. Except I am unsure how well the lock combination will prevent someone from opening it. I don't expect them to carry out this heavy safe, down the hallway, down to floors, and past security out the door.

Any suggestions? I will also keep my dorm room locked, however, i cannot say the same with my room mate.

Get LoJack. Its quite effective. Also there are small GPS transmitters that you can get install inside the laptop to track it via a webpage. I can't remember the name of the service but it was pretty cheap.
