protecting second hard drive from internet?

Once you start copying files back and forth even into disk images or iso files you never know if some file has been altered by a virus or malware. In that sense no data is ever 100% safe. You could inadvertently encrypt a malware code in along with other files. Frequent backups to external sources being screened for "bugs" is common practice advised.

A lot of good idea's thanks again, as I'm new to all this I'm going to back all my song files up to dvd that will include all setting and samples used, if my system does go down I will just have to re-install everything, but I will have my basic settings for all songs along with the sample's, that should keep me safe until I figure out this image thinge....for the time being there's not much else I can do other than make sure I back up.

thank u all again...jon

I've intentionally let viruses go at one point to see how good AVG was when first trying that antivirus program as well as seeing what the virus itself did. It infected one system file and one other files stored in a folder I made for storing that type of file. The system file was simply manually overwritten while the other file wasn't previously backed up somewhere else. Fortunately it wasn't something important when it had to be deleted.
