Prove to me hy should I get a 9800GTX over an 8800GTS?

Title says it all. The 8800gts in question for me is the Palit 8800gts g92 1gig. Now this card is clocked in at 730 and 2100 MHz while the 9800gtx is at 675 and 2200. Those clocks are fairly close and any good OC'er can make them comparable. The big difference here is the amount of memory. The 8800gts I'm looking at has 1 gig while the 9800gtx is only a measly (sarcastic) 512 mb. And considering they both run the G92 core the only real difference is the memory size.

Here is a review of the Palit 8800gts 1gig if you aren't familiar with it.

Palit GeForce 8800 GTS 1GB Sonic SLI Video Card Review

The most current prices on newegg.com are $369 for the Palit and $299 for EVGA 9800gtx.

So, which one will it be? Objective and empirical answers welcome.

Cheers!

For reference it's going in to...

evga 790i ultra sli mobo
q6600 quadcore
4 gigs corsair ddr3 1333 ram
700 watt OZ power supply

Thanks

i think you answered your own question there!

all it comes down to is price at that stage.

question is, can you get an application to use up all the video memory

I would argue that in the near future games will require a much larger memory buffer, and having 1 gig now on a g92 core would be a huge benefit. Especially when I decide to go SLI.

Speaking of which, I did some research and came accross more data supporting the purchase of the palit 1 gig 8800gts over the 9800gtx which is as follows.

Taking numbers from this article, which compared the 9800gtx TRI-SLI versus the 9800 gx2 quad-SLI, and numbers from the article I linked to in my first post...

The data actually shows that in some applications an SLI palit 8800gts 1 gig outperforms a TRI-SLI 9800gtx! And in almost every situation the 8800gts 1gig in SLI outperforms the 9800gtx in SLI.

Once again the only difference being the size of the memory of the two cards and the slightly better clock speeds of the 8800gts.

I think I've talked myself into the Palit 8800gts, unless someone can lay down some data that proves I'm making a mistake.

Thanks.

for 60 bucks you cant go wrong.
as you said, if later you go sli, then this card WILL fall in price so you will pick one up pretty handy later on.

8800gts 1gb sli wouldnt be too bad concidering the data from that article comparing it to the 9800gtx.
