Proxy server Problem!

Hello computer forum, I am posting this thread from a different computer because I am having an issue with my proxy server.

I can connect to things like AIM and limewire and other thing that require an internet connection, but ever time I try and connect to Firefox I get this error message:

The proxy server is refusing connections

Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connection

then it tells me that I should: check your proxy settings to make sure that they are correct.

What should I do?
I really dont want to have to reformat my computer. (thats what the internet/cabel guy said I should do)

in firefox -> edit -> preferences -> advanced -> network tab -> under "connection" click "settings" -> check "direct connection to the internet" and see if that fixes it, or enter there the details for a different proxy.
