proxy servers?

To let you know, I've read the rules, and I'm not trying to get a list or anything.

That being said, why can't we discuss them? What exactly do they do that is so bad? (I guess I just don't understand the use for them)

I've looked in to them a little, but not really found the info. I'm looking for.

Proxy Servers can be used 'legally', they can sit between you (the client) and the real server. This can sometimes speed up the response of whatever you are searching for.

The grey area is trying to outdo the proxy that is used for filtering, such as in companies and schools that won't allow certain sites etc.

see that doesnt sound so bad (for example, my schools filter [shelterbelt or something like that] blocks pretty much everything, and a lot of the sites it blocks could really help when trying to find research or w/e)

What won't be discussed on the forum is how to bypass them but if it seriously restricts your research, then speak to your IT man as to why. Maybe the filtering needs to be a bit more selective.

...well, my position was clearly stated but, in this forum, one is under pressure from the forum nazis!...i proved my point but, was censured for a legitimate discussion and legitimate use of a program on a perceived potential mis-use by anyone reading or inquiring about it by the forum nazis!..they can couch certain things in "the rules" but, that rule in this case labels all users or readers of that post a, how shall i say, "mis-user" without any basis or fact...... seig heil!..lol.......
