im using psx2 but im getting terrible frame rate. can any1 tell me how to configure the settings so that i can run the game at a good speed?
my specs are
Core 2 Quad 6600 @ 2.4
4gb DDR2-800
Vista ultimate 32bit SP1
Asus 9600gt 512mb

I've downloaded that emulator before and its terrible. :D It lags like crazy. Its kind of hard to find a PS2 emulator that actually works good.

emulators are not illegal.

Anyways, I have found that the stable release is slow. I have been using the betas and have managed some damn good frame rates since. I've played many games where I had to limit the FPS because it was too fast.
I recommend downloading both major video plugins, some games work better with one and some work with the other. The PCSX2 forum has more information on settings than this forum will ever have.

you can't with the newer 80 and 100gb models and the old 40gb. you can on the 60gb and the 20 if i remember correctly.

How do you figure? Your using a third party software to play the game on a console that it was not intended to be played on. Whether you believe it is or not is irrelevant. When I first started coming to this site I brought up the issue of emulators and it was promptly locked :/

That is your issue...need 3.4ghz+ to get decent FPS. Quads can't be utilized and clock speed is more important.

I'm pretty sure talk about emulators is not goin to fly around here considering they violate copywrite laws ;)

Not if you own the console + the games its not its fully legal.

Copyright laws and Sony tell me so.

If you own the console and the game why on gods earth would you need to play it on the pc? And if that were the case why would sony not provide a method to do this in the first place?

I will stand corrected if you can provide proof of that statement.

320gb HDD full of ISO versions of all my games is all I need to make me use a emulator over my PS2.

Feel free to email Sony then...the proof is the that PCSX2 is the ONLY PS2 emulator and Sony has never done anything about it so long as they don't provide the BIOS on their site.

The ONLY thing that is "illegal" is the PS2 BIOS which MUST BE OBTAINED from your PS2. Reason why PCSX2 has had no problems and they are the ONLY working emulator out right now.

So psx2 is legal but the bios isn't... Doesn't that still mean its illegal to use it since you have to get the bios from somewhere? I'm going to go out on a limb and assume sony is not into the idea of letting you rip the bios off of your ps2

Furthermore in order to rip the bios off of your ps2 even if you owned one would require you to modchip it which again, is illegal. I'm curious to see a moderator thinks about all this, I'm not trying to be an a$$ but in the name of keeping topics within the confines of the rules this topic is shady at best.

USB to USB cable or a Flash Drive works just fine for me.

Actually its used to play burned games and fool the bios...it as far as I know doesn't do anything to them.

nowhere in there does Nintendo say emulators themselves are illegal and they even infer that you could make your own ROM from your own game and it would be fine under the fact that it is an "archival" copy. Of course Nintendo emulators tend not to need BIOS dumps so they are perfectly legit.

PCSX2 has multithreading capabilities...
My Q6600 plays my PS2 games fine (I run my PS2 games from the actual PS2 disc using a BIOS from my old PS2 which fails to read much of anything now...)

Were talking sony though not nintendo. Sony says its ok to rip their bios off of a ps2?

You could technically classify that as an archival copy. Anyways, my post wasn't defending BIOS dumps, just emulators, which is why I specified that Nintendo emulators didn't need BIOS dumps, making the BIOS issue a moot point, I dunno why you even quoted what I said...
