I quoted because the OP is talking about a ps2 emulator which we have already established DOES require a bios dump by some method or another. Someone said that the emulator is legal because it doesn't include the bios, that's fine and dandy except that program is also useless without the bios which however you spin requires you to acquire a bios using ILLEGAL means. This is my argument.

Were talking sony though not nintendo. Sony says its ok to rip their bios off of a ps2?

If you own the console then yes.

No its illegal to SHARE the BIOS reason why it wont come with it. It is however fine to take the BIOS from your PS2 and use it. You paid for it after all.

Just because I paid for mac osx software does not mean I can install it on my non apple machine legally...

I'm not going to argue with anyone, just saying that this is a really really grey area in legality and I don't believe that sony allows you to rip the bios considering all the hoops you have to jump through to get it off.

Emulators are a kind of gray area. Typically, here at CF, we play it better safe than sorry.

It is my understanding that while the emulator itself may be legal, it is illegal to have the BIOS on anything other than the console itself and therefore, this is not to be discussed here.

Twist86, if you can provide me with a legit source stating that "Copyright laws and Sony" have no problem with someone running the BIOS on something other than the console, please PM me.
