PS3 vs PC

The PS3 GPU is already known to be weaker then the xbox 360's, so we already know that pc video cards are better than the 360's. That means that the ps3 and 360 are already worse in terms of graphics.

ATi`s GPU @ 300 million transistors a sec. 48 PPL.
nVidia`s G71 RSX 500+ million transistors a sec. 24 PPL.

X360`s 3 cores @ 3.4GHZ overall.
PS3 7 cores @ 3.4GHZ overall. (CELL).

But what im wondering is, PS3 is due to be released very soon (APRIL). Will it be better than any PC at the time of the release (games wise) ?

well, so they will be set in stone once the specs are released a YEAR before the debut, which may or may not even be as early as april... looking back at sony's previous launch dates being pushed further and further away, it wouldnt be a big surprise if it were postponed another 6 months. if the ps3 get's a boost here or there, it would make sense. they released the initial specs prior to the xbox 360, though it has changed and evolved since then, and i wouldnt be surprised if they learn from the 360 what can go wrong and what can infuriate the consumers. i have yet to read anything that states sony's proclamation of "these are the final specifications"

The PS3 will already be at a very high price with its current specs, not to mention it wont be released with blue-ray. If they were to upgrade it more if they pospond it....it would be a price near the $1000 mark. Sony has never been a company to make their consoles more and more expensive as time goes on, if they do anything they would want to cut the costs. (Seeing as its more expensive then 360)

I love it how your basing your facts on gpu power through transistors per sec, and shows cpu performance. Insted of me bashing you ill just give you a direct quote from a ign (xbox 360 vs ps3) "The Xbox 360 GPU design is more flexible and it has more processing power than the PS3 GPU." Owned.

Ive been going the wrong way about the PS3 and it is not all what its cracked up to be.

Im gonna sound like such an idiot saying this but am i the only one who thinks the PS3 controler looks kinda wierd. Yeah yeah i know i cant judge by that but just looking at the box that is what i see.

I'm pretty sure most agree with you. Sony had one of the greatest controllers in history for a very long time. The duel analog rox! and is sooo comfortable. They could have gotten by without making any changes to the controller at all. If they wished then add a couple more buttons or something. The controller is very important when playing games and the boomerang sucks. It might not be the final controller though so keep your fingers crossed.

So far the variety maybe limited but who's to tell what games will be released for the PS3

btw what video output connection will the ps3 use?
I asked my partner in electronics engineering at work he works on plasmas, lcd, crt monitors etc….he said that most TV’s are crap compared to what most people have on their computers and the OLED displays will be 100 X faster and better

Although no-one can argue that a high-end PC has more power than the Xbox 360 or PS3, who can really afford PC's that can compete with these consoles? The 360 has 3 cores running at 3.2 GHz each, and each core can handle 2 threads without inpactiong performance. That means you can run 6 treads at 1 time at 3.2 Ghz! I don't know about you, but I don't have thousands of dollars to spend of a PC that can compete with that...

And here's the answer to, "the console can only play games", argument. You can buy an Xbox 360 and a computer for word processing and surfing the net for WAY less than you can buy a PC that will compete with the 360:

Xbox 360 premium package: 400
or
Xbox 360 core package (lacks a wireless controller and a hard-drive): 300

3.0 GHz P4: 735 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16883102228)

Total - Premium: 1135

Total - Core: 1035

Why even bother looking for a comparably priced PC? You'd need an FX-60 to compete, and the price of the processor alone is as much as the console and the computer combined.

People also say that they don't like using controllers (which is a good argument), and people also say that PC games are better. To counter the first agrugment, Microsoft is planning to let gamers use a mouse and keyboard in place of a controller if they wish - I believe that is going to happen sometime in the spring with a new patch (or something to that effect). As for games, there are SEVERAL games that are exclusive to the Xbox 360 that PC gamers are going to miss-out on: Halo 3, Gears of War, a Bio-Ware game (damn, I forgot it's name).

And last but not least, here's something that the console hands down beats the PC in: with a console, you can have upto 4 players playing on one console, whereas on a PC, you obviously only can play by yourself.

What am I trying to say with this? Basically, I'm tired of people bashing the Xbox 360 and PS3 for not being dedicated PC's. People attack what they don't understand, so PLEASE try and not attack something until you have a great reason to do so.
