Well Im now at the point where I wanna buy a new console.

Im thinking more ps3 because I love play station and I hear that the games that are out on ps3 well the graphics are pretty sweet!

The elite is 10$ more than the 60gb ps3 here and im wondering if I should get the ps3 or elite 360?

Right now im leaning towards the ps3.

Oh yeah btw mods and admins please don't merge this into other threads, I wanna keep it my own till I get a few smart answers then it can be closed.

This is a simplified version of a comparison they did on ign.com a while back.
It only compares hardware features unfortunately so you will have to make up your own mind about the value of some of the software features each console has.

From other things I read it seems like the ps3's hardware is better than the 360's.

I also heard somewhere that theres gonna be 230 or so new games launched for the ps3 very shortly and while waiting the games that are out are enough to keep me happy.

Btw does anyone have a list of every single ps3 game that's available now to buy?

I really hate when they do back to back comparisons like that. But anyway, lets also keep in mind that 1. the HD-DVD add on player is now cheaper (179.99) and 2. Xbox live is for sure better than the PS3 network. And almost every single review I have read, agrees with that. 3. Not every wireless router is 79.99 4. Not everybody needs the HD media disc, and not everyone needs wireless built in, so they could be saving money with the Elite over PS3.

Here is a website that made the same comparison, but the Elite came out to be cheaper.

Also when it comes to games, the Xbox 360 has had a head start on things due to its earlier release date. That means there are more games for the Xbox 360, and more GOOD games. Halo 3, Forza Motorsport 2, Gears of War, the list goes on and I am sure someone else can come and continue it for me.

I couldn't care less about online play and all.

Wireless and hd are amazing.

A lot of games I love are gonna be on the ps3 though.

Im dying to play the Ratchet and Clank on ps3 and all.

If you dont want to send in ur xbox every 3-4 monthes for replacement(aka refurbish unit) better stick with PS3. 360 have major issue with their crappy hardware.

I'd say go with the PS3 because it also has a Blue-Ray player which means it can also play Blue-Ray movies.

The only draw back is the PS3 has a 60GB hard drive and the Xbox 360 elite has a 120GB hard drive.

Do you really need 120 gb hdd space?

I believe not.

Have it your way, but I find it hard to enjoy a game without good multiplayer. IMO that is what makes a game. And not all 360's have hardware issues, I have never had an issue.

the blue ray drive gives you no advantae at all (imo) over the 360. (well.. you have more space on 1 disk.. big deal? you cant burn em yourself or add anything to it. not to mention, I hardly think any of the games actually uses (much) more space in a blue ray disk as if it couldnt be fit on a DL DVD. )

either way, I like most of the 360's games better (not to mantion the console looks better :P ) but the choice is up to you anway. i'd just look at the games of the console.. the hardware doesnt really say much tbh. (both have awesome grafic's, and both are fun to play on)

I agree, it is not fair to compare the two in such a way and the fact that things like XBL are not taken into account just makes the whole thing unbalanced. Having said that, I still think that the PSN has the potential to compete with Microsoft's service, just not now. It is in dyer need of ingame XMB and a fully integrated friends system. Hopefully they will come with V2.00 which is due before the end of the year.

Edit: It appears that the comparison in your link is simaler to mine but gives the option of either basic or expensive peripherals. The fact that the overall values were so different just goes to illustrate that it is near impossible to compare the two consoles side by side whilst looking at hardware alone.

This attitude surprises me these days. Even though some services are obviously better on the xbox (live) over the PS3 people have some sense of expecting this in technology all the time. I mean if I am going to spend my hard earned money on something it better work as intended. I hate buying half ass products. It is like the consumers expect every technology to suck when it first comes out. Everyone expects it to have glitches and bugs for the first few years, and everyone has no problem paying for it?

I just don't get it.

As for the PS3 VS Xbox360...it comes down to personal preference and if you don't mind dropping over 500 bucks on a PS3.

I know what you mean. It angers me when companies release a product only for consumers to find that it isn't quite finished yet and demand a plethora of updates in the first few months. Then when the company gives them what the want you have people saying thankyou as if they have been done a favour!

Yeah I know, I have really been thinking about this a lot lately. Mainly because of how disappointed I was with windows vista. I started looking into what other OSes promised and what they delivered out of the box. The truth is, when you look at it from that perspective windows is the worst OS out there. They promise a lot and never fully deliver.

Like blu ray and HD DVD, really do not bring the consumer any real benefit at the moment because the technology isn't being used to its fullest potential. I don't think it will either for at least several years. This is why I can't justify buying into either technology until I see where it goes and actually see some benefits of using it. I mean we all know that 1080p is 1080p no matter what technology you look at. On top of that, you can barely tell the difference from blu ray, to HD DVD to a regular DVD. The only time I have ever been able to see a difference is with true black in movies. Even then it is hard to tell because all HD TVs that use LCD, plasma or DLP can't really display true black because it causes a latency issue in the technology itself. So instead you are getting a very dark gray. Only on certain things was I ever able to really tell a difference, and I consider myself to have above average eye sight and a pretty good knack for detail.

I don't like how everything on xbox live costs money too. I mean they should at least let developers drop in some bonus features for free. That would be another selling point of the game. So even xbox live isn't perfect, but it is one of the better online services I have used on a console.

well HPI it seems like you already have your mind set on the PS3 so why did you even make this thread in the first place? whatever people say you just brush aside and reply with "well ps3 has bla bla bla"... just buy the ps3 then.

May have been said, but some of the longer posts kind of drew me away since it's fairly late at night.

I say, go for the system that has the games you want and know won't be released for the other system.

As Nintendo said at one point: It's the softwear (games) that sells the hardware (System).

My Opinion

Dont you hate these kinds of comparisons - it should be more about the games and not the tech specs of the hardware.

I will say that the games that are out at the moment for the Xbox seem better that the current crop of PS3 games. Also pretty much all games that are multiformat seem better on the Xbox 360 version.

I am sure that it will change but for the moment - go with what you want and dont regret it!

Both consoles will have great games eventually.

Lets not forget the Wii, it has the worst hardware spec wise but its outselling both the 360 and the PS3, this is due to the games being FUN!

Cheers

Well, I like my PS3, just waiting for more games to come out at the moment, like madden 08 and the next generation of tekken etc. It obviously looks nicer and is bundled with more features that is in side it so you might not need to buy external stuff. In general I think ps3 has better hardware, not sure. Err, in my opinion xbox360 is all Halo3. shrug* I know some of my friends at school just bought the system for that specific game over the ps3. Of course they wouldn't play just that game, but the current games they have now(besides the fps games) are on ps3. It is just a wild and random opinion... But for multi-player I think Xbox360 is better.
