PS3 with a monitor

Hey Everyone,
I know that you could plug an Xbox 360 into a computer monitor and get it in HD, so I am assuming that you could do it with a Playstation 3. I do not have an HDTV, and I don't want to spend $1000 dollars or so for one so plugging the system into a monitor seems like a good idea. Since the ps3 doesn't have vga cables, i'll probably have to get an HDMI monitor. But, how would I get sound?

Any recommendations for monitors would be nice, I'm looking for something 20"-22".

Thanks

PS3 have an HDMI output port however I've never used a PS3 so I don't know if it's only video or it includes sound. (HDMI cables support video and sound). If the PS3's HDMI output is only video they also have a digital optical audio output and you could connect to the TV. Also when you say monitor don't you actually mean HDTV or do you actually mean monitor?

Yes, I mean an actual monitor, like a good 22" lcd computer monitor that has an hdmi port :). Now that I think about it, I could plug the hdmi port into the monitor and use the red and white audio connectors from the TV connectors and plug them into my stereo system which has game input. Does anyone know if this would work?
