PSU advise for upgrade

I have a dell xps 410 with q6600. I am going to upgrade the stock graphics card to the 5700. What would be a good psu that fits, has the right connectors and is quiet?

Depends on how many other things you have in there. Fans, hard drives, optical drives....

Something like OCz FATAL1TY is awesome, I have the 550W and love it. Very quiet. You an get them with more wattage too. More than enough connectors. I have my card, 5 fans, 2 hard drives and a dvd drive hooked up andI am not using nearly all of them. What is really cool about this psu is the fact that you dont have to have all the wires ou dont you flying around. YOu can very easily remove/add strips of cables (inlcuded with PSU). And yes, ts designed like that :) And the 120mm fan and the red LED makes it just look sweet!

I just have the stock dell stuff, one hard drive, card reader, dvd. Does it matter if i get the main connect as 20+4 or 24 pin?

If you need the 20+4 pin, then you'll have to get that; otherwise the 20+4 or 24 pin plug with both work with the 24 pin receptacle. And just to give you other options, the OCZs are nice, as well as the Corsair PSUs. I like the Corsairs because all of your main voltage power draws come off of one single "rail" (+12V) where on many other brands, they come off multiple. This way, if you're unfamiliar with building a system you don't risk overloading the PSU and damaging it.

I never hear my Corsair and I own the 400w - 450w - 550w and 2 750w from Corsair so you can see I love them :P None of them I have ever heard over my GPU @ 40% which is pretty much silent.
One thing to do is ALWAYS buy more then you need for upgrades/keeping the load under 90%. Straining any psu COULD lead to bad results but Corsair can handle it. I just like to be safe.

I use Corsair on all my builds and family builds and have never had a single issue other then way to many connectors :P

Will any of the corsairs fit? Are the adjustable fan speed PSU,s quieter than the other ones?

Corsair is standard ATX size.

I have a TX850W (850W, non-modular, 120mm fan) and can never ever hear it. I can hear my hard drive over it it is so quiet.

Because Dell tend to give you naff all room in their cases though, I would recomend going with a modular PSU. If you want to go corsair, the HX550 would be enough for you, or go check out seasonic, Silverstone, Pc Power and Cooling aswell for decent PSUs. An OCZ one would do fine aswell, but maybe 650W would be needed; they aren't quite as stable or powerful as the top brands, like the Corsairs and the ones I just posted
