PSU and your expert opinion

My system currrently has a old 280W PSU. I have now got a paying job and I will be upgrading my system to the max.

So, I am asking for you expert opinions. I have a price range of £25-£60 (Pounds)

I will be upgrading to a Sli or crossfire. With two SATAII HDDs . A 3800+ AMD 64bit, DDR2 Duel, two 512mb and two 256mb sticks.

What would I be looking at? ***W?

Thanks in advance

Hyper make some good reliable PSU`s, check them out here at OCUK

If your going SLi i would suggest 500W mininum with good amperage.

So on that website it has the TypeR and marked down as being SLi compatible. should the rest be SLi compatible with the 4pin PCi-e connectors?

The reason for that is because the PSU comes with 2x 4pin PCi-e connectors ! But you get them with the graphics cards anyway so it dosnt really matter. I think its just a marketing scheme lol.

Ah I see, Do you think I should buy the TypeR?

If so would you recoment buying from these guys?
Yes, I would. I just bought a Hiper R-series 580W PSU and I really like it.

Umm overclockers are a little pricey and you`ll probably find the same PSU cheaper else where. But OCUK are good company with fast delivery and there RMA system is gr8 too. So probably worth the extra.

I would wait for a second opinion, But i recommend that yes :)

I have been looking also at the Hiper Type R and have read many many many great reviews.

I have not yet found anything that I don't like, except that the fans aren't fast enough to act as an exhaust for my computer, they only run fast enough to keep the PSU cool. (which is very slow)

They are good.... just be careful however as they (some models) are tracked as not safely shutting down in dangerous situtaions
It only mentioned that under the 480W power supply....is it the same for both?

Yeah I know they only mentioned the 480, just thought I'd let you know ... personally, I not aware of any problem with the 580s but that doesnt mean it not happen :)
