PSU Failure?

The PC in question is a Gigabyte Technologies with Asus motherboard and Windows 2000 installed.

When I hook it up and press the power button the fans twitch but nothing else happens. If I press the power button again there is no response unless I turn it off at the mains and back on again, then press the power button and the same thing happens once more.

I was hoping to put this PC back into daily use, but so much for that plan it seems!

Clear cmos by removing the motherboard battery. Replace after holding down power button for 10 secs. If that doesn't help ,replace CMOS batter.

Well I tried clearing the Cmos to no avail and thereafter put the Cmos battery from my Viglen into it but still no luck.

It isn't looking to promising, but if anybody has any more possible solutions I am happy to try them.

You said when I hooked it up. Has it been setting unhooked for awhile? Was it doing this before? Look inside a make sure everything it seated good. Power connectors, fans, memory, video card.

Yes it has been sitting for about 1.5 years unused, but I checked and everything is hooked up fine so I don't think that could be the issue. Unless something has been damaged by it getting knocked about.

So I had a similar problem just a moment ago with my computer and I didn't want to make a new thread but i do need some help. Tried to start the computer, got no beeps, no keyboard, display, or mouse. Just the humming of fans. After a couple of starts and a little bit of searching I went and reset CMOS by holding down the power for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Finally my computer starts. Then when it got to the screen showing my motherboard it froze. After a couple of more boots the computer finally starts up completely. I have no idea what to think about this. I feel like i have no way to diagnose what the actual issue is since its starting up now. Does anyone happen to know what the culprit may be?

I would really appreciate any information that can be given. Sorry if this is something that's answered a lot and i couldn't find it with the search function.

Very well may be the PSU... Mercury is a VERY cheap brand (google results bring up literally no recommendations) ._.

Ah well, I figured as much.

At least I got about three straight years out of it running all day everyday!
