hey guys, some of my base specs, just wondered what psu it would take. there was a factory "1000 watt" but it has failed. i will likely be buying from www.elara.ie or www.komplett.ie . i thought maybe an antec earthwatts 750, but what do you think? thanks.

e8500 3.16 clocked
680i SLI mobo
2X 8800 GT gpus
4X1 GB 800 mHz ram
1X250 GB HDD
standard dvd re-writer

thanks!!

600+W from any decent brand.

by which I mean

corsair
silverstone
seasonic
PC Power & Cooling
Antec Earthwatts
OCZ

does it matter that I have to gpus? like does the PSU need to have any special connectors? or does SLI bridging power both of them? thanks

I don't know about the 8800's... but do they require extra power connectors other than just the PCIE-slot?

I'm using the Antec Earthwatts 750W right now (great PSU, i've had it for about a week now...) and it has 2x PCI-E 6pin power connectors. You can add more 6pin power connectors if you like, that come with the PSU itself (modular FTW)! good stuff i say.

You need separate PCI-E for each card. PSUs nowadays come with 2 so you should be fine, at least the ones from Corsair and Antec do.

If you look at this 8800gt (same for all/most 8800gt's, don't worry if it isn't your specific one)

notice on the top, farthest corner the black rectangle on the edge. That is for the power. It is a 6 pin PCIe connector, which on the power supply will look something like this:

and each card will need one.

all have 2, as do most, if not all other power supplies around the 600W mark from a decent manufacturer

I think 600W would be good from any decent brand like Aastii said, might want to step it up to 750W if you can afford it.

MOST high-end brand PSU's will have 2 PCIe connectors, but that will be something to verify before you buy one. Pick a PSU and call the manufacturer if you can't find that info online.

750W is unneccessary. You can SLI 8800gt's on a good branded 650W PSU and it will handle it fine. If you can afford it though, go for it so you have better upgradability, but if you plan on either not using multiple cards, or doing a full system upgrade when you next get a new system, 600W will be fine

I ran sli'd gtx 285's and an oc'd i7 920 on my silencer 610, so I think that one of those could handle your system perfectly(it's also a very quiet psu)
