Hey, im building a new gaming computer and i dont know too much about power supply. I basically just want to know what specs i will need to run the system, or even better a possible PSU that would suit me.

The system is:
AMD Athlon X2 6400+ cpu
Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DS5 mobo
TWO Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT 512mb (in SLI mode)
Western Digital 500gb HDD
Pioneer DVD+-RW
2 x 1GB PQ 1066 Mem

Any help would be greatly appreciated, i hope i provided you with enough information.
PS: Money is a bit of a problem.
Thanks

Take a look at the Corsair HX 520. And also, I suggest getting a single 8800gt instead of dual 8600GT, it'll yield much better results.

That motherboard you selected is a Crossfire board, not SLI. It will only work with 2 ATI cards in Crossfire. Or you can use 1 nvidia based card.

I would suggest 2 ATI 3850 cards in Crossfire, or for the best, 2 ATI 3870 cards in crossfire.

Hmm, it would seem i've dug myself a bit of a whole then. I have already purchased the RAM, the HDD, the CPU and the two Graphics Cards which probably wasnt the smartest thing to buy first but the situation could'nt have been helped.
I have been looking at mobo's with 1066 mem, SLI (at least dual PCI-E x16) and runs the AM2 cpu... so far i havent found anything.
If i get a mobo with less than 1066 mem compatability will it not work, or simple slow down to the highest speed the mobo supports? If so i think the best option for me would be the ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe. Your thoughts?

Smerk thats the same board Im running and I love it. I have dual 8800 GTS video boards 768 mb memory on each configured in SLI mode. I have always used Asus boards when I build my computers. Asus has never failed to support the boards and the warranty on every one.

So your saying you are running SLI on a board that supports Crossfire?

Is that possible?

Everything I have ever read says that it is impossible to do.

And since that mother board says
PCI-E 2.0 Graphics Interface
ATI CrossFireX support

I am guessing that you are mistaken about running SLI on that board. You might have 2 8800 cards on the motherboard, but as for running them in SLI? I don't think so. At least not on stock drivers.

On the newest AM2+ boards, all they offer is Crossfire, no SLI as of yet.

As for AM2 boards in SLI configurations, I don't think any of them have 1066 boards.

Thats why you should always pick the Motherboard first, then build around that. The motherboard is the body of the system.

And I don't think 1066 will work in a 800mhz board.

I think he is refering to the ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe i mentioned, which does support SLI.

You basically buy the unit at full price, then you mail your proof of purchase along with the UPC code of the item to the rebate address (which they'll give you), and you pray to god that they send you $xx back. It usually works, but I wouldn't go around buying the items just for the rebates.

I see, sounds good. Does newegg by any chance ship overseas? I checked their website but it doesnt seem like they do :( sorry if this thread has gone off topic a bit!

Damn thats such a shame, someone should do that, prices in Australia suck. And its impossible to find a good case without a friggin crappy PSU attached thats overpriced!
