PSU Issue? Lights up... but no power

So everything was running perfect yesterday.
Today, I installed a 1gb video card and a Diamond sound. Prior to installing the sound card, I plugged it in to make sure the the video card was working.... everything powered on perfectly.
I was getting everything plugged in and set up. I pressed power and a noise came from the speakers, the orange power light came on and then nothing. It was in a surge protector so I put it direct to the wall... same thing happened. I checked all connections and everything seems good... so is it a PSU issue.
I'm running the Cooler Master 460.

do u get any new reaction if u unplug from psu then replug and try pressing power button. As i just had to get a new psu, as lights were on but didnt power up, if i took plug out then in again, each time i did this and pressed power i got about a second of power fans turning etc before again powering down. a new psu arrived today from ebuyer has solved my problem.
 
Try unplugging it from the wall. Press and hold in the power button a few seconds two or three times. It discharges the Power supply. Plug it back up and see if it willl boot. Plus make sure the sound card is in the slot good. If it still doesnt boot, try taking the sound card out and see if it boots up, could be a problem with the card.
 
I did the discharging thing... reconnected... pressed power... lights but no power.

Sounds like I need a new PSU... great :mad:
 
Yeah there is another computer here that I built... wouldn't I have to disconnect everything? Ugh too much work lol..

unfortunately you would if you want to find the problem, it doesnt take long side panel off, simply unplug from motherboard hdd etc, all you need to plug in to the other pc is just the long power connector pin on the motherboard dont need any hd or dvdroms connected, its just to see if it powers up and the fans turn

could be the processor then.

As a last resort i would plug what you assume is the broken psu into the one you took the antec out of, to see if it powers up that system, that way you can truly rule out the psu.

Slim Chance but possible.
I think there is something wrong with the motherboard.(Not a conclusion,just experience)

If you have the motherboard speaker plugged in,then try taking out all the RAM Sticks and then booting,if it does not give a continuous long beep then there is something wrong with the motherboard or the CPU.

You will need Redundant hardware to deduce which one is it.THe CPU or the MOBO.

If it gives a long beep then something wrong with the memory.
 
Before you go nuts buying replacement parts, take everything out of the case and build the system on top of the motherboard box, if something isn't in right or you missed a connector it will be easier to see.

You might also have all the power connections in right, but the front panel header plugs in wrong. Consult your motherboard manual for the correct pinout.

I'm working the night shift right now :( but I will definitely try the RAM troubleshooting and also just rebuilding it.

This is a bad motherboard. I would double check you have the cpu power connectors (2 of them) plugged in, but this is a classic no 'good power' return to the psu from the mobo.
 
I think its a mobo issue... I have tried everything and still nothing.

I just got it at Micro Center the other day.... they should swap it no problem.
Its not like I did anything to it.... just happened, I guess :confused:

This is my 3rd build and giving me the most trouble lol
