PSU / Motherboard problem

Hi, I am having a really irritating problem with my PSU / Motherboard and hope someone can help me.

About a week ago now I was checking wires at the back of my computer because I wasn’t getting any signal to my monitor…..Just then, a few sparks came out of my PSU and everything went dead.
I opened her up and checked the PSU with the green wire and a common black and it didn’t fire up, so I purchased another…..After checking it was exactly the same as the old one, an ATX 450 by the way, and checked all connections were right on the motherboard, I switched her on, the motherboard light came on but still didn’t fire up. The motherboard is getting power from the PSU but from then on its dead.

Are there any other checks I can do to solve this problem?

Are you sure you go everything hooked up? There are two plugs for the modo, a 16/20 one (depending on mobo) and a 4 one. The 2x2 is the one with power for the CPU and I've forgotten it at times. It is also possible that the failure of the PSU could have caused a surge in power damaging the motherboard. A tiny little shock is enough to fry it, let alone a big power surge.

This isn't really a way to test for a bad mobo, you pretty much have to rule everything else out.

BTW, if it was a power surge that fried your board, other things could be damaged as well, DVD, HDD, CPU, ram, video card, etc. Sorry, dude

Hi Bragr.....I do have 2 plugs for the mb..the 20 fits snug into the MB. but the 4 doesnt do anything...no home for it on my motherboard...is this ok?
