PSU needed?

If I'm going to run a duo core (65w) 2 gigs of ddr2 800 at 2.0v and a 450w gpu that needs 26amps what rating PSU am I going to be looking for?

A little side note I plan on OCing.

Im getting by with a 500w PSU, but I haven't added the new 450w 26a gpu yet.

By 450W and 26 amps, I suppose that means the card you picked needs that as a Minimum requirement. That doesnt mean the card by itself pulls that much, thats the minimum (system) requirement.

That's overkill for his system. Yes, they're great PSUs, but more than he needs. at the most, a good 550-600W unit would suffice.

Thats the PSU I ordered last night. I'm rather sure it'll work fine with OCing and running a HD4850

Where do these power ratings for video cards come from? 450 watts? That means at 110 volts, it draws 4 amps of current. A toaster doesn't draw that much current.

If he can afford it i would recomend getting one that will only be under 60-70% load. This is where PSUs are most efficient.

+1 on where are they from, but as for the power thing, i think you are a little confused. Either that or i am .

So far as i know a video card works at high ampage, low voltage, so the PSU, as is known anyway, acts as a step up transformer, putting your high voltage, low ampage wall socket to high ampage, low voltage. The video card does this even further so it will work at only 17V and 26A if it says it is at 26A.

I do agree though that that is miles off to be honest. A dual card system uses only just more than that, you can run a dual card, dual core, 4 GB system with a PSU running 30 amp 12V rail(s)
