PSU Noise? *Sort Of Urgent*

This happens when my new Radeon 6870 is unhooked btw.

So anyways when I boot up my PSU a high pitched noise is emitted from the back of the PSU for about 3 seconds. Anything to worry about? It's a 400 watt Dynex.

Probably a choke/Coil whine. Most of the time, nothing to worry about, unless its still under warranty and you could RMA. But Dynex is a pretty lowend power supply.

This 400W is surprisingly working better than my old faulty 650W, so yeah I hope it's nothing to worry about. It goes away in under three seconds anyways and it's only during start ups. Thanks :D!

I would still recommend getting a better power supply,I would not trust that 400W Dynex to run a 6870 + the rest of your system.

Sorry for bumping this again, but I just figured out the noise only occurs when my Sata HDD is hooked up through Sata and my PSU, is that normal?

Quick Question (Once More Then Done)

So I have a 400 watt dynex and it makes a short high pitched noise at start up, now this only happens with my current Terabyte HD when it is plugged into the Sata power cable. The HDD makes a noise and then the PSU does and then the Bios comes up and everything is fine and the noise disperses. The noise only occurs when the HDD is plugged in through the Sata power cable as said before. So I imagine this is normal, I'm just making sure.

Any thoughts?

Thanks a ton,
Casey.

Dynex from Best Buy? Bad idea, replace it with a better brand. If you give us your system specs we can recommend one better.

Ive merged your thread as its still on this topic....Like i said before and john just has,Replace that PSU its no good.

A psu making any type of noise isn't good. When it goes, it may take all your system with it.

If you are running a 6870, you need at least a 500watt psu with 32amps on the 12volt rail. That psu has 2 rails of 14 and 15 amps, simply not enough for your system. You need a new psu.

I use two molex connectors darn it :(. Well hmmm what PSU should I get? I need the cheapest one you can find that's a good/trustworthy one.
