Just wondering, I'm about 2 buy a new PSU, I just wanted to know if i used a bigger PSU would it consume more power say my system only requires 600w of power and i get a 1000w does it waste the rest of it ..

cause a 750w PSU is about the same price as a 1000w PSU, I don't think i explained it too well but hope u guys get wat im saying, cause pretty much i leave my computer on all day and i don't want to use more power than i need cause i know i definately don't need 1000w but the day may come that i do need 1000w .... so was wondering if they consume as much as there rated at or do they consume only as much as they need, cause I don't want to pay for like power i don't need

Kinda, buying a way too big power supply is a waste since you'll never use it (example buying a 1200 watts power supply for a system that only requires 600watts)

If you need to calculate use this system, then post the power supply you might be interested we'll try to help you choose which one fits your needs btw tell us the specifications of the things you're going to use

A PSU will only put out as much power as is required. If your system only needs 600W your PSU will only provide 600W, regardless of whether it's a 750W or 1000W unit.

If you can get a (quality) 1000W PSU for the same price as a 750W, there's no real harm in it, although the efficiency can drop a little if you're using a really low load (below about 20% of what the PSU is capable of).

well i pretty much know i need around 600watt of power and i recon 750watt would plenty, but there maybe that day that i'll need more than 750watt then i'll need to buy a new PSU, both PSU's are made by thermaltake which should be a pretty trusted brand only a $35 difference in the 750watt and 1000watt, which isn't that much money for me, but i mean if its going to use extra power then i'd rather jst get the 750watt

but from what u guys say.. if it only uses as much as it needs then i'll get the 1000watt

Definitely get the 1000W. The Toughpower 750W and Toughpower 1000W are based on completely different platforms. The 750W is good, but the 1000W is much better.
