PSU question

I have a dell dimension 3000 desktop and people have been telling me that you cannot add a new more powerful psu (currently 250watts) to the computer, because it uses a special psu that is only compatible with that computer. Is that True or am I able to get a better psu (prefer 350 watts+)? And if I am able to get a new psu could you guys tell me which I can buy for the computer.

To be honest, dell's proprietary gear means that it is very difficult indeed to modify the original setup. You definitely need a slightly more powerful PSU, but you will not fit a standard ATX PSU in that case. You cannot change the case, because the motherboard is not a standard size (Dell's again), and as such, it will be cheaper to buy a new computer. Either way if you intend to game at all, the 8400gs is abysmal.
