PSU question

Hey guys im buying a new gaming rig. It is really moderate so not a huge thing. The PSU is only 500W and i've heard that this is not good? Should it be higher? thank you!

Depends on what components you have in it. 500W might be alright, but give us all the specs.

A decent 500W should be more than capable for that spec,But it depends on what PSU we are talking about.

Do you have the name/model number from the side of the Power supply?

The problem with a lot of prebuilt systems like this is they usually tend to skimp on the quality of the Power supplies,So they might be able to power the system okay but wont usually last very long.

From the pictures, it looks like a Turbolink.

and only has 2 16A's on the 12v, that's terrible, probably peaks at like 360w, might power that setup but cuts it close with no room for upgrading, one of the cheapest but still quality 500w's (corsair cx500) has 1 12v with 34 amps, and uses much higher quality caps and other parts, and as a result can maintain higher wattage for longer periods than that without risking it blowing up and taking other parts with it.

So, in short, this PSU is not good? About how long will it last? and is it possible for me to buy a better psu and install it? What would you guys recomend with a gaming rig for less than $600? Thanks guys!

Have you considered building your own? Otherwise i can look, and i'm trying to sell one but it doesn't have a graphics card in it but you could put a way better one in that what's in that thing. And for that one, you can replace the power supply but i'd do it pretty soon, with something like that cx500 which costs like 60 but is on sale right now (15% off)

Yea I have always wanted to build my own but I just don't have the time right now. I am completely swamped with school and starting a company so I would just rather buy a decent one and be done with it. It seems like the only decent gaming rigs below $600 are off brands(like cyberpower) and come with some shitty or defective parts. So I do not know what the best rig is without taking a gamble....

well building one only takes an hour max, maybe more including installing windows, but under 1 and a half no matter what.
