I have an ultra x-connect uv psu. the uv lighting went out and the tech support recommended i replace the fans. i was wondering if there were any precautions i should take when opening the psu. i think i read somewhere that the capacitators could kill.....so im kinda reluctant about it. any suggestions?

You're really NEVER suppose to open power supplies unless you're trained to do so... I'm VERY suprised they suggested you to this because it can be dangerous and void the warrenty(if you still had one)

Well, of course, don't touch anything besides the fan wires if possible. Many fans are soldered to the PCB and the wires will need to be cut and resoldered. Others have more propritary connections and you'll have to splice some wires. I've done many fan swaps in the past with no problems, but really, you're not 'suppose' to mess with those things...

If the psu is still within warranty, then I would be inclined to return it for a replacement. Like The_Other_One said, it's very dangerous to go poking around in one without training.

Seems like tech support made a gaff with that statement.

I would recommend, as TOO and magicman, to not open the PSU unless you know what's what. I myself have opened quite a few PSUs and not got shocked, but I know my way around a PSU.
