Would like some advice on what exactly to look for in power supplys to give optimum performance.
I was using a rocketfish universal
Ac input:100-240v-2.5A(2a,5a),50-60Hz
DC output:15-20v/5A 90w max
It worked great for awhile.burned out lastnight. Now im using a cheap knockoff that you get for $5 off ebay shiped from honkong.Works fine long as im not watching HD or use the dvd drive. It shuts off within 60 secs if tried.

Seasonic/PC Power & Cooling/XFX/Corsair/Silverstone/Antec

Thanks! The seasonics look interesting, but im not sure how to know weither not the adapter will fit my laptop. Its a gateway M-6308.
I have found my oem factory adapter.Doesn't work, but here is the specs from it.
input:1.6A(1,6A)50-60Hz
output:19V 3.42A(3,42A) 65W
Seems the rocketfish has a lil more power then the OEM.But it is a universal.I just want to make sure im not onley geting enough power, but max power w/o shorting my MOBO out & the adapter fiting my laptop.

What happen to the battery? you don'y use the battery? it shouldn't be any problem if you use the battery with it as long as it charged the battery. I doubt if is the psu cause the problem.

Battery went south long ago.I leave the battery out.I used the rocketfish and had no ploblems at all.Till it quit on me lastnight. When I watched HD,used my dvd player,& played video games it was doing fine with the rocketfish. Now with this knockoff psu, laptop shutsoff almost instantly if I try to do any of those.
Im pretty sure its the psu.

I think you need to get back a battery, It serve to stablize the voltage and the current. it is more help than a different charger to me. also it will act as undisrupt power when power goes out.

Ok.Im geting a new charger first, then geting a battery.Your'e right,it would probably help more.I don't use it for college or buisness so it will be pluged up 95% of the time even when I get a battery for it.
Geting this battery when I do.I figure go big or go home lol.I know its a lil excessive, but would come in handy when I do decide to unplug it and run off the battery onley.

Thanks all:good:

You are only supposed to have it plugged in while its charging, having it plugged in all the time isn't good for it. Once it's fully charged unplug it and wait for it to almost fully discharge before plugging it back in. Doing this increases battery life and lowers the possibility of doing electrical damage to the laptop.

You can also just remove the battery when its charged and used it while its plugged in. Then when you need to take it somewhere, just put the batter back in.

Correct me if I am wrong. I think must of the laptops have an automatic charge circuit, I think they called trickle charge, when the battery full charged it shut down the charge mode, when the voltage on the battery drop it coming and charge it again.

What I notice on my laptops. when I use the battery for a while even just few minutes, the charge indicate comes on (which is orange color), when it finished charge. it turn back to blue color. I have leave the laptop that I use for the week on 24/7 for that week and change it again.

I have three laptops in my home office, I use each one every week to do currency trading which require on all the time to monitor the market. I had leave 2 laptops (old ones) didn't use for quite sometime and when I try to use it. it won't turn on, so I rotage (spell? English is my second language) them.
Cheers.
