Psu Voltage Help...urgent!!!!!

Ok recently after fitting a new case my pc just restarts constantly, after changing psu etc i realised the first psu i used was set to 230 and not 115
i fear i may have blew motherboard, anyone else agree???

dude, that system seems a little over-kill, but thats not really a bad thing :D
as far as the power prob, im not sure just how 'deadly' that is, but ive heard that its a potential mobo killer. id like to hear from someone who knows.

im sure there would be some sort of overvoltage cut out for safety but you never know.
if you're lucky you've only managed to kill the psu and no damage has been caused to the motherboard and any connected parts.
have you tried it since you switched the voltage over?

yup, however it still wouldnt work, it usually boots onto windows xp and within a minute it will restart, so nothing seems to be damaged because its loading ok - however ive switched to another PSU and it still does the same and ive even tried a new power lead, what now?

it shouldn't do much if its set at 220 and you feed 115. But if its vice versa then you've got issues...

i had the switch on the back set to 230... but it still boots to windows and resets 3-4 minutes later so i dont see how motherboard is blown, if it is blown it wouldnt boot?

there might be other problems with your system.
does it blue screen or does it just turn off.
you need to rule out temperature issues too.
if you can try using other other components in your system such as ram etc

well no wow what happens is;

I press the power button on my computer, all fans spin and the tower looks to be fine, however nothing appears on the monitor, the monitor input light just flashes, i know its not my Gfxcard though as the pc previously did work last night but just kept rebooting - so now it just doesnt do anything, ive tried a new PSU but apart from that ive got no other spares i can use.

It WAS booting fine last night but kept restarting after 5 mins of being on windows xp, so im lost - what next...

send it back to the manufacturer or shop you bought it from and get it replaced

Its two years old, all that ive replaced is the case...
yesterday it booted twice and allowed me on windows for 15 minutes before rebooting over and over again..

oh well, next time it reboots pop into the bios and see what your cpu temperature is. if its quite high, say more than 55 degrees you might need to remove the heatsink, clean up the cpu and apply some new thermal compound and reseat the heatsink.

Cpu = 25 degrees c
Mobo = 22 Degrees c

however i can hear a scratching noise that i BELIEVE is from the heatsink fan.. not sure though, however the noise wasnt here when i had the old case

open the side panel and boot the computer up, then see where the noise is coming from and see why its making the noise.
