purchasing an lcd, worried about dead pixels

I've been thinking about purchasing a samsung 226bw. However, I am a little worried about getting a dead pixel. I currently have a 17" LCD, with no dead pixels.

Should I purchase a plan that covers dead pixels? I've only been able to find 1 online store that offers it. I have a local pc shop that sells the monitor, I'd rather pick it up (vs waiting for shipping), but they don't offer a warranty for dead pixels.

Am I being a little paranoid? Should I not worry about purchasing an extra pixel warranty?

thanks guys

i have had two up to now

19inch (1 dead pixel)
37inch (0 dead pixels)

i wouldnt know what to say, they used to be common but i think that most of the newer ones get tested before there shipped not like when they first come out

my friend paid nearly £400 for 19inch and it had two

correct me if im wrong

Yeah, I don't think they're very common anymore. I've purchased lots of LCD devices recently, and none have had any. I would buy online to get the good deal. Or maybe buy instore the day after thanksgiving.

Do dead pixels show up on arrival or do the occur over time?
If they occur over time, how long does it take for them to show up.

I think about 50% of our LCDs at school have one.

I think they usually show up immediately. And if they don't, then usually there are software programs that will fix it.

BTW, if you buy from a good online retailer (newegg), you can return your items easily. I'm sure they would replace it if you bought an LCD that a dead pixel.

Best way to get rid of the pixels:

1) Rub the pixel slightly...

2) Run through an bunch of colors at once (like alotta different slides with different colors)

Actually, there is a formula that some manufactures use to determine when they will replace a lcd monitor.

This is neweggs policy.

LCD Display Return Policy
  • Return for refund within: non-refundable
  • Return for replacement within: 30 days
  • There must be a minimum of 8 dead pixels to declare an LCD display defective and eligible for return.
Newegg.com sells many products such as Notebooks and Monitors that feature LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screens. Newegg.com adheres to the dead-pixel policy that is observed by the majority of our manufacturers. In order to declare any product with an LCD screen "defective" and eligible for replacement or refund through any applicable Newegg.com Return Policy, there must be a minimum of 8 (eight) dead LCD pixels.

Well I picked up the monitor yesterday morning.. I must admit, I'm rather disappointed. I may have received the A version, so I'm guessing anyway. The back bleeding on this is unreal. My brother thought it was a lighting effect on the monitor! Arghh :(.. Oh, It appears there's a messed up pixel.. right on my taskbar, could care less about the pixel though.

I'm not a big fan of LG products, the one and only item I had of theres was a cell phone. I hated it!

Samsung is my favorite low budget LCD right now.
