Q: Is it HDD, Vista, or Asus P5B?

Getting spin down on my other SATA drive that is not the OS (obviously). Can't seem to find settings on my Mobo, or Vista... anyone else experiencing this?

I am new to Vista, so I haven't found where everything has moved too.

You need to explain a bit more, from what I gather your saying that your secondary hard drive is getting "spin down", but I dont know exactly what your asking. I've never seen an option related to that in the OS, or in the BIOS.

But it's good to see someone else from the good 'ol NH ;)

Are you talking about the OS option to power down the drive when it's not in use? If Vista still has the power management thing in the control panel the option should be in there.

It shuts off completely, then powers up when I access it. Hmm, spin down I guess is my own term :). Cmon people get with my slang!

NH! yeah, it's a great place with 50% local and 50% Ma$$holes for the summer...

I checked power management, doesn't even mention Hdds, I have it on a custom/full power.

Go back to the power options. Whichever one is selected, click "change plan settings" then "change advanced power settings". click the plus next to hard disk and type never into the box. Try that and see if it works.

Any hard drive would sound like it spins up when you start accessing data, so it's not that surprising. But I dont think the drive actually shuts down in between uses.

Could have PM2 disabled on the drive if its a Sata W/D, look on the back and see if theres a jumper on the second set of pins from the right

Haha, I swear I looked for something like that... Just found it. Hard drive shut off after 20 minutes of activity, was driving me nuts.

All fixed now! Thanks for the help guys. Sorry for that double post my internet has sucked really bad lately, and I wasn't sure if it even posted either one.

Mine was doing the same thing until Cromewell suggested looking at the power options lol.
