Hey guys,

Ok i need help im very frustrated with my system atm...somehow today my OC managed to get reset,Im not sure how but i tried overclocking back to 3.4Ghz and no matter what i settings i choose it just wont do it....prime95 always fails.

Ive tried diffrent Multiys, diffrent ram timings, diffrent voltages and still nothing!

I took it all the way to 1.5V on the cpu and 1.3V on the memory just to see if that would get me anywhere and still no luck.
But i cant remember going that high with voltages before....just dont know what the hell to do

For some reason my ram...in the bios is running at 667mhz where it should be 800.... i have 2x 2gb and 2x 512mb = 5gb in dual channel with rated timings of 5-5-5-15

whats going on?

Pull the 2x512mb, its gonna bog you down not only in the fact its running hybrid dual channel, but also the fact that 4 populated DIMM slots kills overclocking. After removing the memory try prime95 again.

you should always write down you overclocks too, i've done mine on paper and saved on bios aswell...

done a bios update and it wiped everything so i had to resort to my paper work ;)

listen too what he is saying, i had more overclock with 2x2gig sticks than i did with 4x1gig sticks,,, dont know why but it worked better with the 2 sticks!!!

Plus if somehow it just reset itself. I would use the jumper to reset the bios or take the battery out for a minute. Then start trying your overclock again.

hmm...but ive ran at 3.4 ghz and i think it was just over 800mhz on the memory with no problems before,It was Prime956 stable and everything.

I did lol.....but when i cleaned my room out,Its got chucked i think :D

I took out the 512 sticks and still the same results.

Yup i always use the jumper to reset....still same problem

Prime956? That better than prime95?:P

Running latest bios by any chance? Sometimes bios updates can hurt overclocking. Try giving your northbridge a voltage boost while your at it.

(Reason you overclock higher with 2x2gb vs 4x1gb or mixed combo, is more modules put more strain on the memory controller which hinders overclocking)

Prime 965 is a new super duper version :D

nah i meant Prime95...yup im running latest Bios, But this Bios is over a year old and has been fine with my system...msi have not released any other bios updates because the board is getting on a bit now so its probably pointless.

I set my cpu to 1.457v also tried 1.5v
Nothbridge 1.457...also tried 1.5v
memory 2.2v...also tried 2.3v

and no luck

Right....il remove the 2x512mb sticks...what memory timings should i be setting my ram at?

at defauly bios settings, the ram runs at 6-6-6-12...i manualy set it to 5-5-5-15 iirc when i overclocked and everything was fine,But ive never realy understand timings so would appreciate everyones help in overclocking my machine.

3.4-3.5 ghz would be nice again...i know my temps will be fine :)

Got a link to your memory?

what tighter timings would you recommend i try? like i said i dont know much about timings...i basicly guessed when i oced first time and just choose 5-5-5-15.
