woot, so i sent my first Q6600 back.. turns out, it was defective! and i didn't need a bios update after all!

anyways, its a G0 stepping cpu.. woot! i should hit 3.4ghz easily :D

too bad my motherboard will still bottleneck  lol like it matters huh

So this was a warranty return then? I guess the defective cpu was the old B8. (Was it B8? I forget the old stepping.)

Kind of inconveniencing to you, but at the same time you get a better revision. GL with your OC'ing :)

not sure what the old one was, it kept freezing in windows. anyways, i think my ceiling is 3016mhz. kinda low for a G0 huh?! but anyways, prime95 reports an error at 3060, prime95 crashes my computer at 3150, at 3240 it barely boots into windows and it crashes. seems about right to me, except for the fact that a G0 stepping SHOULD go higher.. lol

edit: ive been talking to people and it looks like 3016mhz isnt a bad overclock for a G0 stepping and that the earlier steppings had problems getting to 2.8ghz.

for now im happy though, for sure.. im running prime95 at 3016mhz stable at all stock voltages, so in the next day or two i'll have to increase those....

ughh! word has it that the newer Q6600's have been overclocking like crap. oh well, i guess i'll live.. but its still a G0 :D

got it to 3060mhz stable working on more... :P

lol listen to you.. not all Q6600's are the same. mine didnt get quite that far but its still an excellent cpu, im definitely satisfied :D
