Q6600 OC on stock cooler

I would say 2.6-2.8Ghz

But the stock cooling is horrible, you should really invest in a good after market high-end cpu cooler such as the Zalman 9700 or the Tuniq Tower

What about the XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler?

It has the same design as the infamous Thermalright 120 extreme cooler for a much cheaper price. Its gonna be a very tight fit, but I think it will fit.

I was thinking about buying a huge fan to mod onto my side window for looks/cooling if I feel like it. What do you guys think of this?

What could I get a Q6600 to with stock cooling? My case is on the cooler side.

If your case does have good airflow and ambient temps in general are fairly low, the stock cooler should suffice as long as you don't bump up the boltage - usually Q6600s can do around 3GHz without a voltage bump. If you go that far, though, watch them temps.
 
The XIGMATEK 120MM rifle cooler is also a great choice, on par with the Thermalright-120 which was discontinued I think
 
Yes, great cooler, and it was on par with a modded TT ultra 120 extreme. I love my S1283(well, i have the rebadged kingwin version, but eh).
 
3ghz, 3.2ghz if you're very lucky. if you get an aftermarket cooler that can handle an overvolt you'll probably hit 3.4 or 3.6ghz. water cooling? 3.8 or 4ghz.
 
The Xigmatek seems to not have a flush base on some units. Do I just use regular sandpaper to sand it down if that happens? How do I mount the 120MM fan on the cooler? I will use a retention bracket (2nd link) to hold this cooler on my board.

No, no no no. Never sand down the base of a cooler. And yeah, all Xigmatek coolers are flush. You mean this?

That's normal and it still works wonders. The thermal paste will take care of that. ;)
 
Well, you sand it if you're going to be lapping it. That's if you have a few hours and really want to drop your temps a whole 2c... Wow! I saw this one guy lap his Q6600 down to the Die!
 
Yeah I mean, if you have the time to lap it go ahead. I just was saying no cause I thought he'd just sand it down till' it "looked" flush :D
 
I dont understand how people are not getting great temps with this in product review. Are they mounting it wrong? Maybe they didnt apply the paste properly. This makes me a little reluctant to buy it now. That Q6600 is insane :eek:.
