Q6600 only $4.99 after MIR?! is this legit?

there is an outrageous price tag of $596.99, which is about double of what it should cost but after the rebate, it is almost free! does anyone know if this site is legit or is it a scam?

A lot of rebates go through the reseller, Newegg offers mail-in rebates of their own.

Most of the rebates I,ve got from Newegg are manufacture rebates. But Tigerdirect owns there own rebate company. That 3GPlaza looks like a ripoff.

i'll try to think more optimistic. yeah if they sent the rebate like a week after it was bought, then they would make no profit, but by paying double the amount of the MSRP and letting it sit, they still use that money to invest in other things right?

Besides, Intel would never allow a company to offer a rebate that low. It would make the Q6600 look worthless. It's a scam. Period.

The majority of the rebates are, however Newegg does offer a few rebates though them, but most are all instant rebates.

The same goes for companies like Staples, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc, they offer their own mail-in rebates in addition to manufacturer rebates.

Yeah, I've noticed that with the traditional retailers. I think we had a $150 MIR from Best Buy when my wife purchased my Sony Vaio.

can't i buy that CPU anyways and follow the terms and conditions as stated on the rebate, and after a few months when it doesn't come (because it was a scam), then report it to my credit card company for a charge back? i'll get money back and the keep the CPU :] this would work no?
