O.k well we just put in my new q6600 into my mobo and vista boots up 5 min in or less or more and it just freezes checked temps in pc wizard 45c was highest on a core and when exit it froze. Im on vista 32 bit. Do I need to re install vista to make this not happen? Please help soon!

I had this problem last week, except that I've had my current build for a few weeks and my Vista froze as soon as I logged in and the startup programs started. I logged into my guest account and everything worked fine, so I just made a new administrator account and deleted the old one.
Have you tried logging into a guest account, if you have one? See if you have the same problem in another account.
But again, I have had my build for a while and changed settings. It sounds like yours is brand new, so it may not apply.

I only have the only one never thought I'd need a guest account so I hope that itll stay up long enough to make one. Bios the cpu temp is over 100c and I was like why is it like that when temps in pc wizard was only like 45c max. IT shut off by itself. Going to try to use my old p4 fan, I don't know why its doing this!

I think my dad placed a little to much thermal paste, loaded it on cpu and hsf. If it does it again well then I'd say send it back right? This sucks. Installed p4 fan and kaplow 26 c, yet it still freezes...

Is the heatsink 100% touching the CPU?

Also, you should only give a RICE SIZED dab of thermal paste. I'm guessing he put it all over.

Take some rubbing alcohol and get to work ;) Everytime you lift that HSF up, new thermal compound will need to be applied.

For dual cores and quads, a small line down the middle. Single core, just a rice sized in the middle.
