under bios i saw an option were i can disable core 1 core 2 and core3

if i left only core 0 and 1 on would it be ok since im not using ny programs that uses it, and also would i notice a heat differnce?
 
Yes you can disable all the cores except Core0, and it will run fine.

But the question is why???? If you were going to disable the other two cores, why didnt you just get the E6600?

As for heat, the cores are still running I believe, you just wont have access to them, so I dont think it would do much in terms of lowering the temps.
 
Why would they still run if you disable them? If they did that then there would be really no purpose to having the option to disable them. I would think if you disabled them they wouldn't run and thus wouldn't generate heat so you should see a difference, or else why even give you the option right? what would the benefit be?
 
I assume that its to aid compatibility with some items, there are those programs and games out there of the older generation which simply will not run with multiple cores. Being able to disable some would enable these other programs to run.

I assume they would still be running just not involved in the pathway on boot, hence the heat would still be there but the system would only access the cores that are enabled
 
most games i play right now dont use more then 2 cores, so i just wanted to try it and see if i get a het differnce or lag right now its at 25c idle at 3.1ghz

As I said before, I believe if you disable it then they just wont be used to process any information, but I would think they would still be running because it would cause problems communicating if multiple cores are off.

You can try, but I dont see how it's worth disabling two cores just to save a few degrees.
 
are you sure it would save few degrees? I thought it would make the 2 running cores even hotter as all the burden are put on them now.
When all 4 cores are active, even when running single-threaded application, it would alternate around the cores, which would also spread out the heat among the 4 cores. Am i wrong?

I'm 87.8% sure that it would.
Scan your computer for example. And look at your Cores' graphs from ctrl-alt-del. You'll see it works a bit in Core 1, then switch to core 2, core 3, and core 4, and back to core 1 every bunch of seconds.
So disabling 2 cores might lower the heat from them, but might increase temp in those active 2 cores.
