Q6600 vs. E6600

I know you can multi-task better with 4 cores but, is it better for gaming? I like to play BF2, BF2142, CoH, COD2 and AOE 3, will the Q6600 be better than the E6600?

Thanks

No, on games it will perform the same as a Core 2 Duo at the same gigahertz with the same cache. Because those games only utilize 1 core...I guess Crysis is the first game to use 2.

I don't think it would matter too much due to games not being made for duel or even quad core CPU's yet? The games are built around singe so I imagine it would be like having 4 GB ram when you only use or even need 1? I could be wrong though since I have little knowlegde about computers :o :o

Some current games are multi-threaded, but dont take full advantage of two cores. I would think that Crysis would take advantage of at least 4 cores since they claim they want it to be future proof.

And you will notice a bit of a difference in games, but not much at all.

Haha....you got wind of that, eh? That is such a rumor, no exec for the computer industry is gonna say that, look at some of the "gamers" now, still screwing with 478 P4's. He will lose a lot of money by saying that, I don't think it happened.

Anyway, I am gonna stick with the E6600, Old history=working history

thanks for reps

Half-Life 2: Episode 2 is going to be optimized for quad-cores, and its going to be a much more efficient multi-threaded game then others out now.

Hmmm....that sounds cool but will it run good on dually's, I wish I could get into Half-Life but, I have no interest in killing friggin aliens or monsters.

if your a good modder, (illigal i believe,) you can make the games utilize all cores, with good results. a similar thing has been done with the members of the F@H team

AFAIK, Quake 4 utilizes 2 cores with dual core cpu

It does take advantage of dual-cores, but theres still alot more it can take out of a dual-core. Currently there is still a single thread that is the main game, while the other core/thread just takes up a small task.

yes your right, but lets not nock any of these games because of that. the new games coming out have to be made with, or otherwise introduced to a dual/quad core, before that game can ever dream to utilize the power. its like using a PCI-E card in a AGP slot. the cores are just too far ahead and advanced for the games. i personally think thats a good thing.

yeh the hardware has developed quicker than the software. There wont be many advantages with the q6600 yet but over time you will start to get the benefits. I dont think its worth at the moment as the q6600 is so expensive, maybe at the end of the year when it will be $266.
