Q8400 motherboard compatability

Currently I own a Q8400 CPU.
Info on it: http://ark.intel.com/products/38512/Intel-Core2-Quad-Processor-Q8400-(4M-Cache-2_66-GHz-1333-MHz-

I want to know if I would have any problems with a new motherboard. I plan to eventually replace it with a i7, so I want a motherboard that is i7 compatible, but will work with my current CPU. Is their any reason an i7 compatible motherboard would not function with my CPU?

I'm kinda new to this whole thing, so I hope this isn't too stupid a question.

That will not work.

The Q8400 has 775 pins, hence socket 775. The i7 has more, 1366, 1155, 1156 pins depending on which i7 you mean.

Mean it is completely incompatible. Not just that the changes in cpe architecture and power consumption are quite different.

Ah. Thank you, that is exactly what I needed to know.

On the other hand, does anyone have a suggestion's in the way of motherboards?
