Q9450 Overclocking Thread

I want to know how I should clock the CPU. I'm familiar with overclocking an E8400 on my 750i, but I want to know if I should take any precautions or anything, I will be watercooling.

I'm going to look for a guide to see if anyone did the same thing.

Thanks.

The Quad will require a fair bit more power than your Dual. Other than that, not really much to it, just OC that bad boy and test it, if it's stable, go higher! ;)

I'm finding that people are hitting 3ghz on stock voltage (~1.3v), but I'm reading some guides, and am just getting confused, though I haven't been in my BIOS with a mind to overclock in months, so..

Thanks.

What do you mean "how should I should clock it"? Same as any C2D. Just play around with the FSB and voltage I guess until you get some stability

Do I need to do anything when installing a new CPU? I upgraded to my current CPU when I added a new Mobo, Gpu, and HDD.

Thanks.

Alright, with my WB, all I need to do is unplug the pump, unscrew the thumbscrews, remove the E8400, clean the WB with ArctiClean, put the new CPU in, apply AS5, and put the WB back on and screw the thumbscrews back on?

sweet waterblock, what is it? might get one when i get WC.
what the little cable come from the block? are they LED's?

i think you might need to reformat, but i'm not sure on that, and mac, that's part of a thermaltake water kit

Nah, no need to reformat. Just take off the WC'ing block, take out the E8400, clean the block, put the Quad in, apply new paste, hook up the WC'ing again and reset BIOS to make sure you don't have any OC settings carry over.

Alright, I couldn't get a stable 4.0GHz+ OC on the E8400, could it have been because of the VDroop pencil mod?

And yes, the cable by the WC is an LED, I may be upgrading it soon because I don't like the acrylic, since it sounds like it cracks, so.

Thanks.

OK, I didn't know if to much or not enough could change it.

Anyways, I got the CPU, I might install it later tonight or tomorrow.

I installed it, it seemed to go over fine, I believe I put a fair amount of AS5 on, a little line in the middle, and a drop or two, then moved it around, so.

Anyways, I plan on overclocking it soon, but want to make sure I'm doing it right, since it's been awhile.

My goal is 4.10GHz, and it's at stock right now, 2.66GHz.

SpeedFan is showing all of my cores under 40C, like Cores 0, 1, 3, and 4 are around 30-34C, and Core 2 is around 27C, and that's idle and after playing some games.

What do I need my BIOS settings to be? And do I need to change the volts at all?

CPU Core: 1.25000V
CPU FSB: 1.10V
Memory: 1.900V
nForce SPP: 1.30V
NF200 Voltage Level: 1.20V

I believe I need to change other settings, like un/link or something?

And does this seem practical? From 2.66 to 3.60 to 4.10?

Also, can someone show me some fast 4Gigs of Ram?

Thanks.

i think 4.1 is pushing it a bit but i could be wrong, those temps seem a bit high for watercooling btw,im getting those temps on air @ 3.2Ghz and im running 64nm cpu so i think like just a noob said....i think you're going to have to upgrade your watercooling.

but good luck :)

Gotcha, I thought they were high too, because my E8400 got roughly the same, so.

And so I should get a new waterblock for sure, but what about a pump?

Thanks.

new rad also i would suggest, go with an hw labs, or a thermochill pa120.3 if you really want to get spendy, i would suggest dtek v2 cpu block, thermochill pa120.3, and a ddc 3.2 pump
