I am deciding (needed for probable future upgrade).

Is DDR2-800 memory (like this for example)

good enough for a quad-core processor (QX6700 or Q6600) on ASUS - P5B-deluxe ?

ATM I have e6600, p5b-deluxe and 2GB of above memory. I am deciding whether to buy 2 more GB of above memory now (an later buy quad-proc when it costs about $600), or, when proc becomes cheaper upgrade whole system (i.e., MB, memory and proc)

id get the ram first, but why exactly do you need a quad?

Oh, I can use as many cores as I can get :)

Recently I needed to occupy about ten computers in computer lab in the university to run matlab on all of them to compute something paralelly..

With quad core processor I will have four super-powerfull computers on my own :)

whats mat lab used for? physics generation or something much more complex? 10 pcs is quite abit.

We needed to process more than billion data points to continue the project, and needed to do fast. (in less than a deay). In PhD in Econimics (Physics as well, though not so sure..) you'll find the use for 4 processors:-)

I just read some stuff and it appears that 4-core processor would not feet comfortable unless it has 1333 MhZ FB. Is it true? May be if I seriously thinking of changing to quad-core, I should start with changing MB to, for example, this, while I can still return my P5B-deluxe? Or my MB will be abble to do 1333 within a year?
