Quad Core Problems

I just built a computer for a friend. It has an asus mobo and an intel core 2 duo quad. The bios needs to be updated because it doesn't recognize quad cores without the update. How is the best way to go about updating the bios to run the quad core?
 
Go to the ASUS website and there is an option for its update. You have even be provided with ur Mobo CD the utility with which u can Update ur BIOS.
 
I cant get the monitor to show up or anything. Are you saying that it will auto update if I insert the CD? Or am I going to have to put a dual core in it just until I update it?

Though if you can't get the monitor to work, I think your gonna struggle to do the update.

I can't even get the bios up at all. The board doesn't recognize the CPU. The power doesn't reliably turn on and off. Everything is getting power, its just that the board doesnt recognize the processor. The Asus guy said to take it to a computer repair shop and have them do it, but its not worth the money in my opinion.

What would the repair shop do? Probiably just put in a dual or single core, boot everything up, then update the bios, then put the quad back in, right? Is that the only way to do this or is there a way around finding a dual or single core just to update the bios?
 
Are you sure it's a bios issue? The bios could very well be up-to-date and there be some other problem such as a bad power supply, bad ram, something shorting the motherboard, etc etc...

And yes, a shop would probably try running the computer with another processor, which is all I can really suggest besides checking the above mentioned details. Without a compatible processor, there's not much you can do.
 
Looks like on that motherboard the BIOS chip is soldered down so you couldn't extract it and swap it with a updated chip.

Also the PC is not functioning properly so making a autobat file with the BIOS and BIOS updating software also too wouldn't work, you would stand a good chance in damaging it.

The only options I can think of:

1) Get a LGA775 CPU (even a old P4 would be fine to do this) then update the BIOS like that.

2) Send the motherboard back and ask for it to be updated/replaced with a up to date BIOS board.

3) Take it to a PC repair shop where you will be charged, then they will probably end up doing option 1) anyways.

Sorry mate this is all I can think of.
 
I had the same problem with this motherboard, and I had to scoop my dad's 3GHz prescot in order to update the bios to make it run, so yes, you'll need a nother processor.

also, you can download the bios and put it onto a USB stick (I/m fairly sure that board supports EZ-flash, doesnt it?) you can flash it with an option in the bios using that usb stick :) (worked great for me)
