quad core versus dual core

well im about to pull the trigger on a CPU but I can not decide between intel q9450 2.66GHZ QUAD CORE or the intel e8500 3.16 GHZ DUAL CORE

the q9450 runs with a 12 mb l2 cache (64 bit) and the e8500 runs with a 6 mb l2 cache (64 bit)

they are almost the same price from where I am getting them....which should I get??

If they're almost same price, I'd go for the quad. It's got way more potential than the dualcore, the little extra mhz of the dual isn't enough to make up for 2 extra cores of the quad.

read the other 100 posts on the forums the cpus u have put are pritty much the same battle as the E8400 and the Q6600 same reasons for buying quad or duel at the moment and future

Yeah i agree!

But i recommend the Q6600.

thanks for all the help, I went with the dual core....

as for overclocking, I understand you can 'trick' your cpu into running faster?

how would i be able to do this for my q9450 cpu?

NOTE: i have a Thermaltake W0131RU 850 Watts Power Supply with a CoolerMaster Liquid CPU Cooling System and three fans in the box
