quad or duo for upcoming games

OK so I've been wondering if I should get a dual core or quad core for my first build and am very anxious to get my hands on some of the games that are coming out in the next few months. Some of these games include Mercenaries 2, Fallout 3, Crysis Warhead, and Farcry 2 (feel free to post more), but I would also like to play a couple of older games such as COD4, quake, and Black n White 2. The thing that I'm not sure about is if the newer games are going to support quad core processing. What would you guys suggest? Do y'all think that it would make sense to go ahead and get quad?

Well crysis uses like 3 cores

Can I tell you what, the difference between the Q9450 and the E8400 is noticable in games, but the Quad is all round better

Also, quad technology is being used now. Rather, get something that will start to be implemented, and can do old thing, than getting a CPU, and upgrading again

Basically, get the Quad

PS, which ones you thinking of getting?

go for quad, its the processor of the future, and is being implemented already in many of the newer games.

Sry for the late response, I'm thinking of getting the Q6600 or E8400.

Ok well between those, it is a tough choice. Unless you planning to overclock the Q6600

The Q6600 uses older tech (65nm, 1066FSB) but the E8400 is newer tech (45mn, 1333FSB)

I think they would be evenly matched in games, and the E8400 might be a little better.

If you were going for the Q9450 or any Q9xxx series, it would be a better quad choice. Less heat (45nm) and your CPU will be generally faster (faster FSB, better OCs etc)

Quads going to last longer being good.

can i ask, how long you planning on keeping this, until you upgrade again?

The Q6600 - $200
The E8400 - $175

So $25 cheaper and performs a little better in games Assuming you are not going to OC to at least 2.66GHz

so basically:

If you not gonna OC and you gonna upgrade again in a year, get the Duo

If you not gonna OC but you not gonna Upgrade soon (more than a year) get the quad.

If you gonna OC, get the quad.

Basically, thats what i would do.

Yah I don't know how to OC, and I'm going to get an experienced person to help me do it, although that will prb be a while after i build my pc

in my opinion dual core is the way to go. its plenty for todays applications.

spend your money on a really good motherboard and upgrade to quad core when its being utilized more. they add new processors so often that its not worth spending so much on it.

holy crap, i know i should just keep my mouth shut and ignore it, but my god. people, please, use the search button. how many threads do we have about this same topic now????
