Quad running as Dual core

I loaded into a old HDD with XP pro 64 and it shows all four cores... also my ram is 4gb now instead of 3.3gb in win7 64 ....

It isn't defective then - it's your OS. If you've upgraded hardware, (Without reinstalling Windows) chances are your OS won't see the new hard ware to its full capacity, meaning you'd probably have to reinstall Windows to see those other two cores because your OS is almost 'used to' your old hareware.

your windows 7 probably isnt 64 bit. that means its def. software related. reinstall windows 7 and it will work fine:D

not sure why my ram did this it was 4gb in win 7 until I swapped the cpu.. but yeah I am sure reinstalling will correct this.... I have been wanting to overclock this to see if it does better than the 955... the whole reason I spend the extra...

I guess I got a defective cpu ....

I would not think so, since its showing 4 cores in the Device manager I think something is going on in Windows.

Win7 Ultimate 64bit .... I went into device manager and under cpu it shows 4 cpus... but if go to task manager or any other program it shows up as 2cores 2 threads...

Edit.

Try this.

msconfig - Boot tab - Advanced Options - Look and see if Number of Processors is checked and set to 2. If so change it to 4 or just uncheck it.

Reinstalled win7 64 and everything is working perfectly. My ram is 4gb again and all cores are showing up and working great at 4ghz! Thanks for the help. :D

Hey,

How would you compare the Phenom Quad 1.8 GHz to the 64 X2 2.7Ghz?

Thanks
