Quad Sli

I'm pretty sure the quad SLI uses standard SLI boards. Each card basically has two GPUs on them and/or a PCI Express 16x splitter...or so I've heard. I'm sure google has all the answers.

If I had a scanner I'd show you guys a pic they had in a computer magazine where they showed a pic of two cards that were for Quad SLi. I'll try and find it on the internet.

EDIT#1:
Found the pic I was looking for, I'll have it up in a minute.

EDIT#2:
quadsli7jv.jpg

It's 4 GeForce 7900 GPUs. But they're not available to the public. Only bigger companies that sell pre-made rigs can get their hands on 'em. The pic is from the CeBit expo. By the way, credit for the pic goes to MikroBitti, they made an article about the CeBit expo.

EDIT#3:
Not Quad SLi but I thought you guys might be interested.

Yet another pic provided by Mikrobitti. According to the text in the article, the specs are:
Mobo Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI QUAD ROYAL
CPU Intel Pentium D 940
GPUs 4xnVidia GeForce 7300GS

I still dont get it, I see some Quad SLIs that have 2 cards, some with 4.
Some use two GPUs built onto the same card.

why the heck would you want to quad sli 7300GS?
Quad 7300GSs could still use passive cooling reducing the noise. There are better cards that use passive cooling though. Overall, I really can't think of too many practical applications!

I believe the quad royal sli board has 4 pci-express X16 slots. The quad sli most people are talking about uses 2 pci-e slots but each slot controls 2 cards.

Take a look at this well written article: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/geforce7900-quad-sli.html

In my opinion, quad SLi is a total failure so far. Not only do SLi AA modes cause artifacts and crashing, but in high resolutions, which quad SLi is suposed to excell at, the performance gap between it and the X1900XT corssfire system actualy decrease, and sometimes the crossfire system performs better. Back 3 years ago all we needed was a single 9800 pro to provide top of the line performance, now we need 4 graphics cards...

I'm going to wait untill quad SLi matures though, its still really new.
