We need a series of test, spread across the spectrum, so that it's fair. So we can once and for all find out which is truly the best.

Any suggestions?

Obviously there, Super Pi times, 3D Mark CPU Score's, Game FPS', rendering times... what else?

No trolls or haters, keep it clean.

Can people using the i7 throw their results in?
The reason I'm asking is because they come in 4 core only.

I don't know, it'd probably be between the Q**** and the E8*** owners and the AMD equivalents.

I guess we could get some i7 results just for the hell of it!

Ok I see way to single out the minorities :).
I'll try comparing an dual and quad amd in photoshop cs4.
EDIT
This should be an interesting battle.
I've used both the e8400 and q6600 but never got around to compare them.

i will fight to the death for dual. there will never be any conclusive evidence, at least not in the near future.

im ready for WAR

I think it should only be Q6 vs E8, those are the main rivals.

Yeah, and the AMD equivalents, too.

You're right, there'll never be a definite answer, but bring it on!

I could help, I am using an I7. Would you like me to keep it at stock?

I guess getting more results wouldn't hurt, sure.

Not my fault you have an awesome computer! :P
Sure thing, sounds great!

i'm not completely stable at the moment, but here is 4.275ghz

for my first entry.

i guess that put's me in 8'th place for the forum? :D

i'm gonna go for 4.4 brb

hey for a temporary load, whats the max voltage you guys would put on an e8400 C0? it can do 4.4 im sure but its gonna need 1.52V or more lol

on air? I wouldn't go above 1.45v, others will definitely argue it, though its the VTT thats rough on them. I have gone 1.6v on water. The longer you do it, the more voltage it'll need for those higher bench-able clocks. Most people call it "burn in" on these chips, but its actually damaging the chip slowly. Thats why so many people started reporting dead processors, they were only watching the temperatures (which didn't/wont read correctly) instead of the voltage they were using.

heres my best, my board is limiting me from going higher.

how on earth did you get past 4.0ghz with 1.45V??? if you had the E0 stepping it would be ok but wtf lol.

meh, nevermind, i do remember people saying that when Geoff had this chip, it gave him problems overclocking.

Mines C0, it does 4.0Ghz stable at 1.24v. She's a golden C0 :D :D

Im not as pro as you heavy OC'ers, but without a voltage change heres what I get 3.5GHz on my E8400. I'm thinking about bringing it to 3.8, but iv never tinkered with voltage before and I don't want to fry anything.

hey man, just keep it at or under 1.45V at 4ghz and you'll be fine. mostly all of the e8400's will do 3.6ghz on stock voltage, but usually not more.

It's not stable and you going higher?

45nm, the E8xxx series it is recommended to only go up to 1.4v for 24/7, anything above that can cause gradual degradation. Meaning it will slowly kill itself.

lol yeah i know the dangers, but hell its only gonna be on for, what, five minutes, then its back to 4ghz and 1.45v. i maxed out at 1.5v and 4.34ghz anyways, and i didnt bother posting the results after thatguy16's lol

teamhex, set your FSB to 400 to get 3.6, you wont have to mess with voltage and ram speeds wont be effected.

The ram speeds were effected it raised them a bit, its at 3.6 now. Whats a good CPU stress test? Normally I just play games until it crashes, lol. Im sitting at about 36c at idle. Im going to edit my Sig in a second with the new specs.
*edit* Woot, looking good. When I learn abit more about it ill go for 3.8, that should be fine with my cooler.

Cleaned up the thread. Stay on topic guys. If you have specific questions about Core 2 Quads and Duals, I don't think Kornowski will mind that, but do your best to post your stats and keep jokes to a minimum. Post your settings and bench results. Let's see which core design that reigns supreme. :D

Thanks, Mike. So, should we carry on...

I guess we'll still look at Super Pi times and then maybe at 3DMark 06 CPU scores?

tbh this post is going to make all the E8400 users say.....yeah look at our superpi scores againsts those Q6600 we kill them.

yeah that may be so because you have higher clock speeds but in the real world (not benchmarks) the Quads are king when it comes to more games becomming available that take advantage of Quad core power then those E8400s wont be so good ;)

im realy happy with my Quad i wouldnt trade it for a 8400 even if i could get it stable 4.2Ghz!

Its just going to be a never ending war between the Q6600 and E8400 users.
