Quadro 5000 vs A Gaming Card

Hi,

I was recently given a Nvidia Quadro 5000 as a gift, but I'm wondering if I should sell it and pick up a gaming card, as I do absolutely no 3D modelling, but play quite a few games.

Also, what is a fair price to sell it for? It's still boxed and sealed in the static bag but the box has been opened.

Thanks,

Haha, it wasn't paid for at retail price! But yes, it is that one :)

So would it be worth keeping it and running it in my system or would I get better performance from a cheaper card?

Thanks again,

hazzahnoob

EDIT: It might be worth noting that I'm in the UK... If anyone wants it, I'm open to offers via PM

you will be better off selling and getting a couple of GTX580s. They will perform circles around that Quadro 5000.

What he said. Might need to replace your motherboard/power supply if thinking of getting 2 580s, unless you have a motherboard with 2 pci 2.0 slots, and a 750-850w power supply from a good brand.

well you could put it up somewhere asking for like 1400 (well the equivilent price), and then just do an entire new build with an i5 2500k and 2 g80's keeping the current case/monitor/hdd's.

how on god's earth did you get someone to give you that... that's worth more than my whole computer

It's worth far more than my whole computer, but it was extra stock in a shipment for my Dad... He distributes equipment for a big computer company and he gave this to me thinking I could make use of it in my PC... Unfortunately I do no 3D modelling, so it's wasted on me...

Not wasted on you. You'll be able to sell it slightly cheaper to someone who needs it and get some great GPU's for gaming in return! I just hope you're able to sell it reasonably soon, I can't imagine there's a huge market for such a card... Good luck. :good:

Haha, true enough... I'm gonna scout around for a 3D modelling forum and post it in there I think...

you can do a buy now instead of an auction and list it for 1400 or best offer or something like that, since yours is open box but you never opened the static shielding you should get more for it than most.
