hi everyone,

could anyone tell me how i link up a laptop and my dekstop pc so i can play quake in two different rooms ? my laptop runs off a 1mb wireless broadband connection. I have tried messing around with the multi player option whilst both computers had a internet connection running but failed to link them up. i noticed at the bottom of the screen it says specify, do i need to type something in that box like my ip address and it also mentioned something about a port. I am a newbie just in case you had not allready noticed.

any help would be much appreciated.

cheers
mike

yeh quake 3 is ded fun!

ports - whenever you set up a game theere is a default port openeed being used by the game. (when you host)
when you join you have to join using the same port. it should say the port at the loading screen.

does it have to be on the internet? have u tried networking - internal. i can do that.

the port is shown after the ip - eg. 192.168.0.1:29700
where 29700 is the ip.

just make sure in settings you have internet connection specified..

anyway hope that helped.

hi dave thanks for the info, i set the internet option but it did not brings up my other computer it just listed a load of servers and teams who were on line. so i gave them a shot and got well & truely nuked. both ports read 27960 and above this in the specify option it says address... do i have to type something in there maybe. i dont have the cables to network so i have to use the internet.

got nuked?

teams usually play by themselves.
find deathmatch maybe - its just double click to connect to online games btw. :)

address - huh?

host computer - try hosting a game online - i dont think you can not sure... but if you can write down the host ip address and port.

guest computer - try connecting to the game online by typing in the ip address of the host computer and port and connecting from there.

cheers, i have just connected both computers to the same server. the only downside is that you get someone joining your game who has played quake since he was 3 who comes along and kicks your ass. but like you said its good fun though.

Not sure what the prob is :-). What you want to do first is make sure both computers are connected and if you've got them both online through a hub or router then that should be fine (windows XP) Make sure they both have the same OS (just to make it easy but not necessary) Then start Q3 (update it) on one machine then start an online game (offline lan) then start quake up on the other and choose multiplayer then click on lan, your other computer should show up here.

Edit:

Just looked :-) I've got it installed, You want to goto Multiplayer then choose local beside server at the top of the list.

I dont have our computers networked for file sharing or anything and all i've done was plug them all in to a "HUB" to share the internet and without running the network wizard or anything all multiplayer games can be connected via lan (God I love WinXP). Should be pretty simple.
