Quality of oem DVD players

How is the quality of a basic internal (desktop) dvd player, OEM, compared with a 'brand name' tv component player such as Samsung or Sony?
For playing dvd movies.

Is there really not much difference as I've heard?

Then arises the question of cost - are tv dvd players more expensive because they require more independent components to make them operate or is it more a matter of many more oem players being produced nowadays, thus driving prices down?

You really won't see a difference. With quality cables on a BluRay player, yeah, but not much so in this case.

That's one of my great internal debates - using the optical line to an amp routed to real hi fi speakers in conjunction with the dvd player. Have klipsch thx speakers but they're just not the same.

As part a desktop pc entertainment center.

The strategy does not include separating off into an outside dvd player too. Otherwise, its time to say "why even use the pc". Forms sort of a breaking point.

With desktop DVD players (and I mean the DVD-ROM drive in your PC) the picture is normally shaky and pixelated for me, but on an ACTUAL DVD PLAYER it is fine.

Have noticed that both with standard external players and internal players there can be a momentary pause while watching a dvd. Irritating as you watch the froze image. About a half to two-thirds into it.

Is this is a memory issue? Anything that can be done?
